We are seeking a Senior Engineer to lead a team of dedicated localization engineers in our US and European offices. The successful applicant will be technically competent with the ability to work to tight project deadlines while ensuring all required procedures and quality checks are followed. The ideal candidate will be able to provide a high level of interaction across departments and with our clients and possess the organizational and people-management skills needed to lead projects and our engineering team.
Primary Responsibilities
- Lead projects: organize and monitor engineering resources in the same office or offshore
- Interact internally with other departments and with our clients. engineering departments
- Analyze new projects to identify potential engineering-related issues
- Evaluate time and resources for engineering work
- Research, prescribe, and supervise the implementation of new tools
- Verify, evaluate, and supervise the integration of internal localization tools
- Support new engineering tools as needed
- Organize and supervise the configuration of hardware (PC, Mac, etc.)
- Organize/supervise the installation & maintenance of multilingual OS and software packages
- Organize and verify production environment (translation memories, etc.)
- Troubleshoot engineering components
- Initiate and/or participate in the improvement of the engineering process
Education and experience
- Technical background/education (Computer Science or related field)
- Min. 3 years of experience related to localization/internationalization
- Min. 2 years exposure to non-US cultural environments
Knowledge, skills, abilities
- Strong knowledge of Windows operating systems and applications
- Excellent knowledge of at least one programming language
- Working knowledge of C/C++, Java, HTML, Perl
- Familiarity with XML, JavaScript, ASP, VB
- Proficient in translation memory tools
- Double-byte and bi-directional language enablement a big plus
- Internationalization experience a big plus
- Knowledge of Mac and/or Unix applications a definite plus
- Excellent leadership and organizational skills in a multi-language/multi-cultural environment
- Ability to show high level of initiative
- Excellent problem-solving capabilities
- Good verbal and written English communication skills
- Self-starting, pro-active attitude
- Quality- and detail-oriented
- Ability to work and meet deadlines under pressure
- Ability to learn new skills/fast-moving technology and apply them
- Client liaison experience a big plus
- Knowledge of foreign language(s) a plus
